Yeti 1500X Temperature Incorrect
I have a 3yr old Yeti 1500X, and since the last firmware and app update a few months ago the unit temperature seems incorrect. When the unit is in approx 10-12 degC ambient the displayed temp on the app varies as low as -8 degC (and shows 'COLD' on the front panel, hence will not charge). When the unit is in approx 20 degC the displayed temp shows up to 30 degC. In both cases the temperature fluctuations don't correlate with charging/discharging cycles. I've tried resets etc through GoalZero support, but nothing has helped. Has anyone else seen anything similar? Thanks, Nick

Hi @nrrw,
We suggest contacting our solution center to check for potential warranty replacement. It does sound like the Yeti is having an error with reading the temperature of the battery. Their contact information is below.

Hello. I've already had a couple of months of back-and-forth with Goal Zero Support, but it ultimately resulted in me being told there was nothing that they can do as I'm in the UK. I've tried contacting the UK distributor (customer.services@burton-mccall.com) and have had no response in 2 weeks which is disappointing. Can you please advise how to proceed?

I had a similar problem with my 1500x. I updated firmware, tried various reset (UNIT + INFO, RESET + INFO, and just RESET) options but they didn’t resold “COLD” temp warning even tho it’s about 75 degree F. I contacted tech support but their suggestions didn’t resolve the issue and way past warranty. What has now worked is as follows:
Drained (used) the battery. When it was about 25% depleted (75% full battery), the “COLD” temperature warning stopped flashing, but the unit still would not charge from wall outlet. I had to buy a USB-C to USB-C cable with 60 w charging block because I didn’t have one. At 70% full battery, I was able to get slow charge using (only) USB-C 60w PD port - I only tested as I wanted to drain unit. Then today when the Yeti 1500x battery was below 50% depleted, I tried plugging into wall and it started charging. Think I’ll deplete Yeti more (perhaps to 10% ish) then full charge after.
I’m hoping it will fully charge without having temperature warning issues, but I assume the USB-C PD port will work as a backup option if it stalls charging from the wall outlet.Good luck!

Thanks for letting me know - I was wondering if mine is a unique case, and am frustrated and disappointed by GZ's lack of any type of support for this problem. I too managed to 'raise' the reported temperature by draining the battery which allowed charging, but then the reported temp dropped again and it will no longer charge. I've not tried slow charging through USB-C, and when I get home might give that a go. Does your 1500X still display 'Cold' and allow this 60W charging?

Hi Davis - I've tried charging through the 60W USB-C port and it does nothing (currently reporting 'Cold' and the app saying -11 degC). I've managed to charge it sporadically after using the inverter, which I guess raises the internal/battery temperature to a point where it reads something sensible, but now it's on 2% charge so no way to warm up the battery. Have you seen anything similar, or have any further pointers? Cheers, Nick
