Any of your current unit able to recharge an electric car like a Kia EV6 for instance?

    @PYG,

    TL;DR: Full recharge of an EV from a Yeti 6000X combined with expansion tanks is possible but will be slow. We currently do not have a kit that can fully recharge a 50kWh or more EV every day but you may be able to recharge enough of the EV's batteries for a short commute or infrequent use if setup and conditions are right.

    Can you connect an electric vehicle to a Goal Zero Yeti X Power Station and begin charging it? Our US model 1500X and larger Yetis produce 120V AC power at 2000W continuous. There are EVSE chargers that take 100-120V AC power as input.


    Will the Yeti be able to recharge the EV6 or any other EV? That depends on a few things and with some math you can estimate what you would need.


    According to this page:

    • The EV6 comes in 2 battery sizes, 55kWh for Light, 77.4kWh for Wind and GT-Line models.
    • The ideal RWD driving range is 232 miles for Light, or 310 for Wind and GT.
    • The ideal AWD driving range is 274 miles ( only available on Wind and GT )
    • The battery full charge time at 120V/12A is 51h 5m for Light and 68h for Wind and GT. If you only charge a little more than you need the "Stadium effect" will allow you to charge more range per hour in the lower charge percentages ( think 10-50% full ) than always trying to charge to 100% full.

    The key to any question along the lines of "Can I charge X product with Y power station?" comes down to units of Watt-Hours, a measurement of battery capacity. The EV you asked about is made with 55kWh(kilowatt-hours). Our largest capacity power station, the Goal Zero Yeti 6000X has a capacity of 6,071Wh or 6.071kWh.

    This means the 6000X could at most recharge 11% of that 55kWh EV battery*** You can add more capacity to the 6000X with a Yeti Link + 2x Tanks, 4 tanks or more.

    Based on the EV stats above, if we take the Light model for instance, we can find kWh/100Mile so we can use this calculator

    ( 55kWh / 232miles ) * 100 = ( 0.237 ) * 100 = 23.706kWh/100miles

    For just a 6000X the calculator estimates you could recharge from EV battery (+11%) from 10% to 21% in 3h21m. The calculator on the bottom of the page says that will get you +26miles***

    Note: Up to now we have just looked at a single recharge of the EV without talking about recharging the Goal Zero setup. Lets do that now:

    So, If you live in a place that is pretty cloudless near the equator you could potentially get enough EV recharge with this setup to do a short daily commute in ideal conditions. Cold and cloudy conditions and driving on steep roads will reduce recharge capacity.

    If you are looking for the most efficient EV, the Aptera will give you more miles per kWh than any other.
