Cold Temps, Escape Screen Not Working, Any Pointers?

Hello Awesome Community,

Let me start by saying my firmware is up to date.

Is anyone experiencing issues with the Yeti 4000 and its add-ons in cold weather? My Escape display won’t power on, which means I can’t turn on the lights or heater in my van. The Yeti itself is powered on and reading 100%.

I read online to hold down the 12V button for five seconds to restart the Escape, but it’s not working for me. Is that the correct method, or did "Doctor Google" steer me wrong?

Here’s my setup:

  • Yeti 4000 + Tank
  • Two Boulder 200 solar panels on the roof
  • Escape remote display inside the van

Additional details:

  • Location: NJ (East Coast)
  • Temperature: Mid-30s today, feels like 22°F with wind chill (at 3 PM).
  • Yeti battery temp via app: 38°F.
  • Van is insulated with Havelock wool, and the Yeti is under the bed frame, boxed in, with a -20°F sleeping bag and 5-inch memory foam mattress on top.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  1. Plugged the Yeti into an outdoor outlet to warm it up (still inside the van, as it’s a pain to remove).
  2. Unplugged everything, including the Tank.
  3. Deleted the device from the app and restarted it.

No luck—Escape display still won’t power on.

I’ve got big winter trips planned for VT and NH, where temps will be even colder and make the 30tys of NJ look like a heatwave. I’d love to sort this out before sleeping in parking lots up north.

When up north I’ll run the heater more frequently while traveling to avoid this issue, but any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I have to hit the pair button on the back of the yeti 4000 every time to get the app to work on my phone. My last yeti 4000 always stayed in pairing mode and whenever I got back to the van it connected.

Thanks in advance,

Rob
