Yeti 400 Pro Grounding
Yeti 4000 Pro. Have solar input through the HPP port. Solar panels are mounted in back yard and are grounded to each other (strung in series) and then the last panel to an 8 foot deep grounding rod. Resistance out is less than 5 Ohms. Using 10awg copper grounding wire out there.
Inside, the Yeti 4000 Pro is connected to a RelianceControls Model 310A (ie. Haven 10) manual transfer switch. Inside the transfer switch, there is a ground (green) wire that comes off the receptacle (L14-30R) but simply grounds right to the chassis of the 310A transfer switch. The Yeti 4000 Pro itself will NOT be plugged into a wall outlet.
Documentation says I need the Yeti 4000 Pro plugged into a wall outlet to get grounding. I wasn't planning to plug into a wall outlet because I intend to use it off grid running things like my fridge, wifi, etc. In short, my solar panels will be able to supply enough energy daily (1800W of panels). For me, plugging into the A/C outlet would only be done in an emergency such as if I don't get enough solar input for days on end here in California.
- What can I do here? Is the ground from the Yeti 4000 Pro TT-30R output to the L14-30R inlet of the Reliance 310A enough?
- Do I need to run a ground wire from the Reliance 310A L14-30R receptacle over to the grounding bar on the Main Panel?
- Attach a ground wire to the 310A chassis and run it to the house ground?
Attached is a pic of the wires that you connect to the receptacle. You will see the black, red, white (goes over to the main panel neutral bar) and green (ground) that simply connects to the green screwhead pictured on the 310A chassis.
Thanks!!

Simple solution: The Yeti 4000 Pro gets grounding from the AC input plugged into a 3-prong wall outlet. Since I plan to run off the Yeti 4000 with solar panels but with NO A/C power plugged in, I will simply disable the dedicated wall outlet breaker I have for charging the Yeti at the Main Panel. It will still be plugged into the outlet, thus attaining ground.
If my solar panels can not produce enough power or I need to charge the Yeti, I just turn on the breaker.
