Yeti1500 performance in sub 32F/0C temps

I thought I read somewhere that the Yeti doesnt perform well in sub freezing temperatures. It was recommended to buy a protection case. True? Can you still access power when it is in the case? Does the case have vents for the cooling fans? Alternatives to the protective case?
