The very first words in the User's Guide are 'Before using or storing, plug your Goal Zero Yeti into the wall until it is fully charged'.

Why?

What happens if I try to use solar panels to charge it first?

What happens if I charge it half way on the wall and then the rest with the panels?

After the initial charging do I ever need to plug into the wall again?

Nothing bad is going to happen if you start using the battery before charging it up. If you charge it half way with the power supply and the other half with a solar panel the Yeti will be fine.

I think they put that message there because a lot of people might buy a Yeti and not even take it out of the box until they need it. I am sure most people get these power stations for emergencies. That emergency might not happen for a full Year. If you are not cycling the battery or keeping it charged it will not be ready to go for when you need it.

It is best to keep it plugged in all the time so that it is at 100% for when you have a power outage. It is also a good idea to cycle it here and there. Drain it down to about 40% and charge it back up.
