How to change battery type on 20 amp charge controller?

I'd like to test my boulder 200 briefcase + 20 amp charge controller on a new LiFeP04 battery, but I can't change the battery type on the charge controller. Do I need to hook it up to the battery first, then change the battery type? It's currently set to WET, and I don't wanna damage the new battery.

    Yes, the connection to the battery needs to be made first. Next, Press BATTERY TYPE button and hold for 3 seconds to go into your battery type selection mode, the battery types you select will be shown on the LCD meter, the default setting is AGM Battery; the controller will automatically memorize your battery type setting.
