Charging Goal Zero 500X from 7 pin trailer plug
I've got a 2021 Tacoma with a camper in the bed. I use a Yeti 500X for power which I usually charge with solar. This works great until the clouds roll in for a few days. I spliced together a 7 way blade to 2 pin trailer plug with a 10 foot 14AWG to 8 mm port wire (see picture). I connected the set up from the tow plug (2021 Tacoma) to the 8 mm charging port on my Yeti 500x and ran it for 15 min. The Yeti displayed about 85 watts input and increase about 5% during that time. Nothing got hot to the touch.
This would be a convenient set up for me to use when boondocking in overcast weather but I notice the Goal Zero website is very clear to only use their 12V charger. If I use my wire set up, do I risk damaging the Yeti or starting a fire? If so, if I upgade to a Yeti 1500 or 3000 would running the same set up through the anderson port be better?

Hi @vetrad,
The cable you made looks like it will work with the Yeti with no problem. As long as you are not rigging it to go directly to the starting battery or alternator, it will be safe to use.
