Installed the update today and now have my 30amp AC charging restored but trying to bring my Escape Kit display back to life. It powered up fine but its not providing any info or functionality. Any ideas?

Release notes from 2024-05-24 say improvements were made to the charging behavior of the HVDC input port:

  1. prevent over-current in potential ground loop scenarios
  2. improved low-current latching behavior for lower voltage input sources

Have you tried a full power cycle since doing the update? (this includes removing all power sources from the yeti, including AC power, solar, and tanks, then power off with the power button next to the screen, and leave for 1 minute, then restart. )

Yes, I know the drill well… Since I've given up on the 'cloud connect' system for updating firmware, I have to pull the unit out and move it into home wifi range. So powering down, disconnecting and rebooting is all part of the fun ;-)

FYI, I've done nothing to fix this issue yet the remote / Escape Kit is working again. I have to laugh thru these early growing pains… the GZ tech team tells me this is all normal for new products. I'm a retired tech guy so fully expect these kinds of quirks. Others may not have the patience.

I'd argue it isn't normal... I'd check your wire off of the battery and to the display. It could be bad

You may be right. I've never owned one of these all-in-one devices so "normal" is not a word I would associate with the Yeti 4000. At this point, I'm chalking up the oddities to my unfamiliarity with the unit.

Firmware 1.7.6 is out as of Aug 21, 2024.

    https://github.com/GoalZero26503/yeti-wifi-public/wiki/Yeti-PRO-4000-Firmware-Release-Notes#release-notes

Looks like it is addresses a massive amount of "Improvements/Enhancements". Before I jump on it, does anyone have any experience with this new update?

    Thank you!

My Goal Zero App says latest firmware is 1.5.8 (currently running on my 4000 pro). How do I convince the app to update the firmware? App is latest version. Thanks!

You can't, at least not yet. GZ hasn't updated the Apple app from version 1.5.8 yet. I'm guessing Google Play doesn't have it for Android either.

You will definitely want to run 1.7.6 (released 2024/08/21) so you'll need to update by the 'direct connect' process. YMMV but the 'cloud connect' method has never worked for me.

So far 1.7.6 has been mostly good. Just one error where I got a "unknown battery model' error, which caused my AC to stop working. After many reboots and resets, only the Factory Reset using the Settings button fixed the issue.

thanks for the info. Is there a link for the ‘direct connect’ process?

I can connect to my 4000 using Bluetooth, is that the direct connect method you mean? Do I download the firmware on to my phone and push it over Bluetooth somehow? Connect a laptop to the 4000? Any info is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Just off the phone with GZ Tech Support. 1.7.6 has been pulled back due to a 244 error with no estimate for a fix yet. I'd stick with what you've got for now. 1.5.8 is now the 'latest' you can download.

FYI, I called GZ because my app said I was at 1.5.0, when no 1.5.0 was ever released! The app wants me to update to 1.5.8., but I'm at 1.7.6 so there's a bug in the app. 1.7.6 has been reasonably stable so I'm not going back anytime soon.

I guess I’ll have to wait on updating firmware then.

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by ‘direct connect’ process? My yeti is connected to WiFi (verified by clicking through the gear button ‘Device Info’ section). The app says cloud connected. I don’t see any firmware update option on the gear menu on the Yeti. Is there another way to start a firmware update with the app?

I’ve been through the wiki on GitHub and on this site. I cannot find any information on updating the firmware without using the app.

If GZ didn’t update the app to upgrade to 1.7.6, how did you update your yeti?

    Thanks

I updated my system to 1.7.6 before GZ pulled the update and regressed back to 1.5.8. I've found 1.7.6 relatively stable and a vast improvement over 1.5.6, and have not experienced the 244 error. I believe the 244 was found during the install process, for some folks.

My firmware process is something I developed on my own, working with the GZ tech team, due to my own specific requirements. My processes change slightly every time. There is no official firmware update process that I've found.

In short, I connect my iPhone to my Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth to my Yeti, using the GZ app. Both require logon credentials. However, it's not that simple as I have to switch from Bluetooth to WiFi during the process.

This is what I call 'direct connect' as it doesn't use cell towers/data, but yes, it still likely uses cloud services. FYI, GZ changed their term for 'cloud connect' recently, but since so many servers are using 'cloud' services, likely including GZ cloud and direct methodologies, I find using the term 'cloud' muddies the water. Sorry if this is confusing.

Once you see that the firmware update is available:

    1. Open Zero app, connect via Bluetooth
    2. Go to Device Settings > firmware version > update firmware (I can't do this with my phone using the Bluetooth to Yeti connection, so I then need to…)
    3. Go back to Device Settings > connection > tap here to cloud connect
    4. Go back to Device Settings and change your connection to cloud connect (yes, this is odd)
    5. The app will then require your home WiFi credentials

Once all those connections are successfully made, you should be able to install the firmware update under Device Settings > Firmware Version (assuming there was a firmware update to make).

Keep in mind that my process is slightly different than this, due to me having to remove the unit from my van to get it into my WiFi range. This requires me to turn off the system, unplug all connections, restart. Additionally I have to hit the PAIR button an the back of the Yeti when the connection drops.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks! I’ll give it a try when they release new firmware.
